David J. Schmit is dedicated to helping clients with their legal needs.

David J. Schmit

Mr. Schmit received his B.A. degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his MA degree and Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University, Washington D.C. Mr. Schmit is a member of the State Bar of California and is admitted to practice before all California courts, the District of Columbia, and certain federal courts including the United States Supreme Court.

Following law school Mr. Schmit spent four years in private practice where he had extensive criminal jury trial experience in Washington D.C. Thereafter he spent two years in the United States Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit where he researched and wrote memorandum regarding pending motions. Since 1980, Mr. Schmit has been litigating workers' compensation cases, including Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act. He has also practiced in the areas of maritime law, civil personal injury, insurance coverage, wrongful termination and subrogation. In 1985 Mr. Schmit organized the law firm that is now Schmit Law Office and he continues to practice workers' compensation and counsels clients in California employment law and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Mr. Schmit is actively involved in the San Francisco Industrial Claims Association and lectures statewide on a variety of workers' compensation topics including Labor Code section 132a and psychiatric injury. He was a contributing author of The Longshore Textbook.


Patricia L. Hastings

Ms. Hastings received her Bachelor of Arts and Humanities degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Juris Doctorate from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California. She is a member of the State Bars of California and Florida, and is admitted to practice before all California courts as well as Florida courts. She also holds a certificate in civil mediation from the University of South Florida and served as a Florida Supreme Court-certified Circuit Civil Mediator.

Prior to becoming a member of the California Bar, Ms. Hastings worked for several years in the workers’ compensation insurance claims industry, as a claims examiner, supervisor, account executive and independent consultant.  As a result of this experience, she is fully familiar with the challenges adjusters face and the complex requirements of claims management.  She strives to provide quality legal representation and to create and sustain an effective working partnership with claims professionals and the clients they serve. Following law school, Ms. Hastings worked for two years as the in-house legal consultant to Newton Medical Group in San Francisco. Since 1989, Ms. Hastings has been litigating workers' compensation cases. She has also practiced in the areas of subrogation, social security law, insurance litigation, civil recovery, landlord/tenant, elder law, and creditors’ rights. Ms. Hastings continues to practice workers' compensation law and advises clients in related areas of California employment law, public employee pension law, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Ms. Hastings has lectured and written articles on issues that arise in the litigation of HIV-related workers’ compensation claims, and has presented continuing education programs for legal, claims and medical professionals on a variety of workers’ compensation issues.


Timothy T. Huynh

Timothy Tuan Ba Huynh obtained his Juris Doctorate with a concentration in Business and Corporate Law from the University Of San Diego School Of Law. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology/Law and Society from the University of California, Riverside. Mr. Huynh is a member of the bar and admitted to practice before all of the California state courts.

During college, Mr. Huynh began his legal career interning at several small law offices in San Jose and San Bernardino, California. While at law school, he served as an Executive Board Member for the University of San Diego Asian Pacific American Law Student Association and Senior Articles Editor for the San Diego Journal of Climate and Energy Law. Prior to working at Schmit Law Offices, Mr. Huynh clerked at a statewide non-profit disability rights agency and in the subrogation department of a Southern California general civil defense firm. Mr. Huynh’s experience includes workers’ compensation, subrogation, and general civil litigation.

Anna-Patrice M. Harris

Anna-Patrice M. Harris received her Juris Doctor with a concentration in Constitutional Law and Civil Rights from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and minor in Communication Studies from Xavier University of Louisiana. Ms. Harris is a member of the California Bar and is admitted to practice before all California state courts, the U. S. District Court for Northern District of California and all immigration courts.

Ms. Harris is a native of the Bay Area. During law school she interned at an Oakland labor and employment law firm, and the Santa Clara County Office of Public Defenders. Prior to working at Schmit Law Offices, Ms. Harris worked at a private firm specializing in bankruptcy and business litigation. She then opened her own firm where she practiced personal injury, business, criminal law, and general civil litigation. Ms. Harris’ experience also includes family and immigration law.
